| Drawing Techniques: a Guide | |
| Process: Squaring | |
|
The finished design as established in the modello usually had to be enlarged to the scale of the finished work. For this purpose the artist drew a grid over the modello, usually in black or red chalk, and enlarged the composition square by square. In this modello for a tapestry the artist's squaring in black chalk is faintly visible in the sky in the upper right. |
